Aha, so it was an update that started all of my problems as well, thats half the answer then, I posted about the very same thing "10.1 terminally ill" what a pity only one person read it and replied.
More of a pity, apparently only one person recognized/had the problem and responded. Does 'obscure problem' come to mind rather than '10.1 terminally ill' being true? Or were you *just* referring to your particular installation problem?
As already stated that can be fixed by the above method or a rescue disk or any Live CD/DVD and browsing to your home directory.
Good that you have achieved a working model of the best distro available at an affordable price. And you didn't even have to report to m$ the regestration and ask for verification that your install was ?legal?.
