The ultimate example of this is on the comp.lang.perl.misc newsgroup. Most of the resident guru's spend more time flaming people because they have not RTFM or read the FAQs. They probably increase the traffic flow by 50% because of this. It has to be seen to be believed.
Believe it or not, the Perl newsgroup is, by comparison to the #perl IRC, a kind place to be. Or maybe I just do not fit the specialised model of those who feel at ease in this chat. A great deal of irrelevant things are admissible, while Perl questions often raise violent, repulsive reactions. I've been lucky recently. If we except a rather small amount of letters lacking elegance, I like the spirit in suse-linux-e, which I have read for a few weeks by now. I glad having avoid some other lists that have been mentioned recently. I say that I've been lucky, because when I recently switched from Perl to Python[1], I found a similar friendly, helping crowd. ---------- [1] In fact, to tell the truth, I got away of Perl, towards Python, mainly after I've read people comparing the spirit of the groups. This is only once I made that move that I really started to understand the virtues of Python. With SuSE and Python, my computer life is significantly happier. :-) P.S.- Oh, and by the way. SuSE 6.2 runs Python 1.5.2, while SuSE 6.1 runs Python 1.5.1, which is much older. For those interested in Python matters, I think it is better leaving SuSE 6.1 aside. -- François Pinard http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/~pinard -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
