I have just installed a new PCI sound card, Creative SB Audigy LS on my Athlon 700 PC, which has a dual boot Win2k and Suse 9.1 Pro. First I installed the Creative driver from the CD for Win2k, and the sound card worked quite ok testing it by playing music CD and MP3 from my DVD player (HP DVD writer).
Next I booted SuSe 9.1 Pro, and verified in the Yast2 Hardware info that the Creative sound card was detected as SB Audigy LS.
Then I started the Yast2 Hardware Sound tool. (Maybe at the first boot and trial was asked if I wished to configure the new hardware). The first configuration screen was empty without any sound card listed. I selected <Add a sound card>, next manufacturer "Creative Labs" and sound card model "SB Audigy" (the last "LS" lacked) and <Next>.
The second screen told that the sound card SB Audigy would be configured as the first sound card (snd-card-0). I choosed the default selection "Fast automatic setup" and <Next>
The third screen displayed an Error which told: "An error occured during the installation of SB Audigy. The kernel module snd-emu10k1 for sound support could not be loaded. This can be due to wrong module parameters, for example invalid in/out- or IRQ-parameters".
The left part of the screen told: Verify that tha package ALSA (from the 'snd-serie is correct installed). If the problem continue, try different altertives for the ALSA module. If the sound card still doesn't work, try OSS/Free or another module. In that case you have to start the sound configuration module from a shell with the command "YaST2 sound .oss"
I tried the latter commad as root, but didn't find the right Creative SB Audigy LS driver and quitted Yast2.
I have tried to run an Suse 9.1 update installation from the DVD and selected update only the installed packages, in case the sound card would be detected and installed. But this didn't help.
Any suggestions what I can do and try now, possibly experiences with this Creative sound card installation?

Your best bet it to download the non regparm package from opensound.com if you are using the 2.6 kernel. Make sure you have the kernel sources installed as well for the correct same kernel version. Opensound works great on the Audigy LS.
I wonder why I can't see Creative SB Audigy LS mentioned among the supported cards at the opensound.com list? And is there available complete procedures to do this for Suse 9.1? According to the Suse hardware database, Audigy LS is not supported in Suse 9.1 which included Alsa 1.0.3. It was also mentioned that it was possible this sound card would become supported in Alsa 1.0.6 (Suse 9.2?) http://hardwaredb.suse.de/showProduct.php?LANG=en_UK&searchtype=simple&product_id=24761&arch_id=&dist_id=&PHPSESSID=10b55c83047e837635deb988e8430de4 Thanks, Terje J.
