Steve,
I know that there is a version of Mathematica for Linux available. For office suite, you may want to take a look at ApplixWare or StarOffice or WordPerfect Office. I have ApplixWare installed on one of my machines for a few users but I don't use it myself -- I use LaTeX.

If you ever use StarOffice, you'll never use anything else again. I bought the distribution......WELL worth it! I'm moving in the direction of removing ALL MS from our systems at work, and StarOffice will replace MS Office.

Is StarOffice 4.0 as slow on yours system as on mine? Granted it works
well, but it takes about a minute just for the opening StarOffice screen
to show up on my system, which has a Matrox Millenium and a Cyrix P200+
processor. Nothing else is even near as slow.
