Hello: In the thread of my previous question on "usable free space on an ext4 file system" I wrote that I could not fill the available free space with one big file. In openSUSE 13.1 I can not copy one big file to fill the available free space. I found that in openSUSE Leap 15.1 I can copy the same file to fill the available space, using the very same partition. When I want to copy the file the system says there is no space left on the device. Some file is copied partially. In this case df reports that the available space is 0. If I umount the file system and mount it again, df reports that the available space is 55K. I find it srange. Maybe it is a silly question, but I would like to know what process or program handles file systems and their use (used space, available space). Is it the kernel or mount program or somethging else?
