I'm seeing this very same problem since installing Netscape 4.5. I have a home office up stairs and have and a network server downstairs. I can hear the modem on the server dialout when I start netscape. Once the server gets logged into my ISP and I have a connection, netscape unlocks. I'm running KDE 1.0 and when Netscape "Freezes" it hangs the whole UI which is very bad. I guess Netcape is doing some sort of DNS lookup and the lookup is blocking the entire Netscape UI as well at the window managers.
yes. I installed a caching nameserver. starting netscape mail, it wanted for some curious reason the name of an news server I never knowingly accessed. weird. Killed the .netscape dir and recreated it - peace. did not see that with netscape 3.x netscape 3.x at some point (mail) decited to draw **all** available memory, including cache. killed .netscape - peace. if something goes wrong with netscape, .netscape has to go. ;-)) (i usually rename it, to be save ...)
