Which networkmanager frontend exactly? If you use KDE, please read this--- however, I just hope it is still relevant since I do not use 11.4 anymore: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2011-05/msg00035.html
What you suggest here is to update?
Only plasmoid-networkmanagement and NetworkManager-kde4-libs. And to remove NetworkManager-kde4. The latter is "deprecated" and newer versions of openSUSE use plasmoid-networkmanagement as default.
Do you mean the version you use does connect wifi 'out of the box'? If this is the fact: Which version do you use?
I do not remember and I do not have access to my EeePC at the moment. But I do remember that I had problems connecting to my WPA2 WLAN. Finally it worked, but I do not know exactly why. However, my router does the dial in using PPPoE itself. Thus, qinternet and smpppd are not installed.
Thnx 4 replying, (if newer version works ok, I'll update, instead waste much time with unnecessary fuss..) [...]
If you want to use the KDE4 and Networkmanager you should update. But: Since you cannot even connect using ifup, there might be another problem. Thus, please try to check the output of the commands and the log files I mentioned in my previous article.
