I start to get realy annoyed. Must have missed something. Can't mount (or rather access) the CDROM as user.
When I mount as user, it mounts fine, perms are readable to root only. Perms for mount are: -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 57980 Mar 11 11:49 mount
hdb is (meanwhile.. ;-)) br--r--r-- 2 root disk 3, 64 Mar 11 11:11 /dev/hdb
after mounting as user, the mp looks like drwx------ 11 root root 4096 Mar 14 17:15 cdrom
this get annoying. Any Ideas??
You're talking about the first two SuSE 6.4 CDs, aren't you? These have the wrong permissions set. You can either disable the Rock Ridge extensions (but this will cripple all file names that don't fit into the 8.3 scheme). Or if you're accessing the CD mainly using one and the same login, add `user=<pid>' to your CDROMs fstab line:
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro,noauto,user,uid=500 0 0 ^^^^^^^
I was laughing out loud reading your comments. Yepp!!! CD1! I tried to look through the package descriptions for a program that enables recording from my soundcard, when this condition struck (Still searching!) You can understand my annoyance, can you???. I *realy* had forgotten that my german telefon dictionary CD worked fine and some others I tried. Later, when I went to bed I vaguely remembered that fact. Only solution was that there *were* permissions *on* the CD, rock ridge, or transtbl, or goodness knows. Well, you saved me the last experiment! Still laughing. Did you hack my machine??? How did you guess??? Thanks to all that replied, though! can't stop grinning...
