I am trying to upgrade my kernel to 2.6.0-test11 and 2.4.23 getting the same error during boot with each. I am not sure if this is a problem with my kernel config file or my grub.conf, but I am inclinded to believe that it is my .config since I copied and modified the kernel name and removed the initrd line.
The error that I am receiving is: VFS: Cannot open root device "sdb" or unknown-block(0,0) please append a correct "root=" boot option Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount rood fs on unknown-block(0,0)
I have tried some many things, I don't remember what I have and have not. Also, being that I can not mount root, I do not have the ability to tell you with 100% certainty that any device has started.
Thanks, Jon
System: Athlon XP 2600 Giga-byte GA 7N400 Pro2 (NForce 2 Pro) Adaptec 29160 SCSI controler The HDD that I am boot to is SCSI ID 1 (if that matters) Using default SuSE grub install I boot to /dev/hdb6 as / it is reiserfs
Ooops. Missed that you already posted GRUB. Boot to the CD and load necessary modules then "boot installed system". This will allow you to run yast to modify the boot configuration and make sure that the root partition is properly set. -- Brad Shelton On Line Exchange http://ole.net Phone: 313-526-1111 Fax: 313-526-3333
