That's why I think what's wrong is the density it's using, since it's EXB-8505 and should be DDS-4.
Tapes are usually identified specifically by the hardware. For example a DDS-3 tape vs. a DDS-4. Personally I don't think I would worry about it. Have you tried to see how much data it will hold?
