Hi, In my insatiable quest for better font rendering and based on some messages on this list over the past few months (and various sources on the 'Net), I "took the plunge" and rebuilt and installed the FreeType source RPM with the so-called "byte code interpreter" (BCI) enabled. I'm happy to report that this change produces a rather profound improvement in font rendering. As with the switch to an LCD display (not to mention the switch to a DVI graphics card), this change demands a rather painstaking font selection process in order to get the best results throughout the system. It really is worth it, though. I highly recommend that anyone with demanding needs in the realm of font quality do the same. I could go on at length about the visible differences between the results produced by simple-minded anti-aliasing available with the default FreeType configuration and the proper interpretation of the embedded font hints available only with the byte code interpreter enabled. Suffice it to say it's a big win to use the BCI. Randall Schulz
