Just an FYI ........ I recently did a fresh install of 7.1, and last night I upgraded kde from 2.01 to 2.1.0 - 1x, which was the last version on the suse ftp site right before they put out 2.1.1. I got the same dcopserver error. dcopserver is in /opt/kde2/bin and when I tried to run it, I got an error saying that it was aborted because $DISPLAY was not set. I downgraded kde to 2.1.0 - 0x (version that was on the ftp site around the first of March) and the problem went away. I'll try upgrading from 2.1.0 - 0x to 2.1.0 - 1x & see what happens. I'll look at the tmp directory before & after the upgrade and if I get the error again, I'll try removing the stuff from tmp. I deleted those directories and kde2 loads up now.
Was KDE 2.1 loading okay before you upgraded to 2.1.1? If so this might be the same problem I am having. If this is the case, I'll have to try your tip and see if it fixes my problem.
