It all depends on your MB. if it is older you will not be able to go to a k62 as it uses a 2.2 or 2.4 volt core and the k6 was a 2.8 or a 3.3? I dont remember but most MB from the k6 days wont go down to 2.4 volts for the core.. Ron Darren R. Weber wrote:

It probably depends on your motherboard. In most cases it's a simple operation. Pull out the old, swap a jumper or two, put in the new. You may have a motherboard that configures automatically though, or one that needs adjustments in the bios.
If I were you I would try to find some info on the net about your motherboard before I did the upgrade. Make sure it supports the processor for one, and then find out how to make the changes. It really shouldn't be too hard.
