That was a very informative reply and thanks for that. The output of the command you suggested is:
testparm -s --parameter-name "unix extensions" Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf Processing section "[homes]" Processing section "[profiles]" Processing section "[users]" Processing section "[groups]" Processing section "[printers]" Processing section "[print$]" Loaded services file OK. Yes
On the NAS box or on your SUSE system? The sections named groups and users look very like the default SUSE smb.conf. The intention was to let you call testparm on the NAS system. If you're able to get a shell there.
The bug report looks like a daunting process eg:
tcpdump -s0 -w cifs-debug.cap 'port 137 || 138 || 139 || 445' tcpdump: listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes
sits there until I type ctrl-c
0 packets captured 0 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel
Looks like 0 communication and fits to the assumptions I made before. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany
