Okay - clearly something isn't quite working here. I have never seen ntpd running, yet not responding to ntpq. Could you perhaps try adding '-d' to the command line options.
The system had been running for about 60 minutes when I took the logs. That is all there was. Nothing more in either file.
Okay, then it would be interesting to add "logconfig =all" to your ntp config file.
I will try disabling ntp and see if the time comes up correctly.
You can also in /var/log/messages instead and see when you get the 2-hour time-jump. ntp was clearly starting when the time had already been adjusted.
