Anyway, late in the install process my GUI presentation flashes to text mode presentation for a 30-60 seconds, then I got a flashing screen.
I used cntrl-alt-F2 to get a console and brought it down to init 3 just fine. Then I tried "sax2 -l" and after 30-60 seconds I again got a flashing screen.
Moving my mouse around I have the impression that the entire screen is a big mouse pointer?
Weirdly, after attempting Sax2 numerous times and getting nothing good out of it, I just rebooted the machine. My KDE login screen came right up and I'm working fine. Truly unexpected. Never even crossed my mind to try a reboot. The resolution looks good, but when I go to Desktop - Configure to see what resolution I ended up with I get "Your X server is using the RandR extension at version 1.2 or greater which doesn't have any configuration yet."
