Getting keyboard input to work with Hoyles Word Games and wine

Hello list, I can get the above mentioned game to install and start to the screen where it asks for the player to enter their name. But no matter what I do, there is no input on the screen. I can see by looking in the console from which I started wine that all of the keypresses that I did are there and not in the game. I downloaded the newest version of wine from the suse FTP server. Anyone have a clue??? I did a web search with Google and nothing helped. Posted a SOS on the Franks World site for help also. I'm hoping maybe someone might know how to get the input from the keyboard to appear in the game.
