I am now thinking there is a connection to using the Cisco 5000 VPN client - I'm quite sure the freezes only happens when the vpn module is loaded. Hmm..Maybe I should look for an update to this module. I do see a lot of network driver related problems (I'm using a Linksys WPC11 wireless PCMCIA card which normally works fine): Mar 26 06:44:59 ranger kernel: eth0: Error -110 setting multicast list. Mar 26 06:44:59 ranger kernel: eth0: Error -16 setting multicast list. Mar 26 06:44:59 ranger kernel: eth0: Error -16 setting multicast list. .... Mar 26 08:30:16 ranger kernel: eth0: Error -110 writing packet header to BAP Mar 26 08:30:16 ranger kernel: eth0: Error -16 writing packet header to BAP in /var/log/warn I wonder what (which piece of software/hardware) triggers the blinking LEDs? I have now read about IBM Thinkpads with the same symptoms. -Erik Joe & Sesil Morris (NTM) wrote:

I am not 100% sure that the freezes started after the SuSE 7.3 upgrade, but I think so...
Any suggestions? Is this more likely to be a hardware failure?
You can try booting with 'disableapic'.
I tried that and it still freezes.

What does /var/log/messages say? I installed 7.3 on mine (new install on a new HD after running 6.4 for over a year), and I had some strange lockups. Inside of a month the HD failed. Got it replaced, and I have had much better success. I would either suspect hardware or misconfiguration, especially of X. YMMV.
