That's similar to my attempt (I added other switches to suppress headers, use portrait mode, one page per sheet, etc). The problem I ran into is that a2ps scales the font up to fill the page, but its extra-wide margins cut off the ends of the lines, prompting my concern with margin control. Doesn't your setup cut off the ends of the lines, Juergen? FWIW, one person responded to my query on comp.periphs.printers saying that physical margins for "most HP printers" are 0.33 inches, so the printer itself should be able to fill the page with text. After unpacking the apsfilter-4.9.9 package from metalab.unc.edu, I see the documentation has been amplified, and the author notes that the wide margins are compiled in to a2ps. So I guess the answer to my particular margin problem is to edit some source and re-compile. Oh well... Thanks for the responses. It sounds as though most folks use their printers with GUI editors and let those editors handle the subtleties.
