Note: I haven't actually done this myself (yet). Check out the gfxboot package, esp the /usr/share/doc/packages/gfxboot/README file. From reading that, it appears that you can simply run mkbootmsg with a config file and the new graphical image (in the appropriate format, of course). What appears to be a suitable config file can be found in the gfxboot-devel pkg, /usr/share/gfxboot/SuSE/SuSE.config. Hopefully that will get you started in the right direction.
