To avoid this mess, one could do this: - Create an own private group for every user, e. g. I'm user sttr and my group is sttr, as well. - Change everyone's umask to 007. - Create a group for all users who will have access to a shared directory, say sharegrp. - Create that shared directory, let's call it sharedir, and do a chgrp sharegrp sharedir chmod 2770 sharedir Now all files/directories created in sharedir will automatically be accessible to the members of sharegrp.
