Also, share with us the output of fdisk -l (or equivalent if not only Linux is installed) while booted to each OS.
yes.
and do you reach any grub menu? if yes pressing ESC at this moment gives you to a text menu and can allow using a console prompt. from this consol prompt, one can identify how grub sees the disks.
in such case it's worth learning it. non trivial though

OK, I installed OpenSUSE 11.1 on one disk, windows XP on another one. 11.1 was upgraded to 11.2 but this does not change anything. XP upgraded to windows 7, don't think it's related to grub. So just ignore it. Here is the output of 'fdisk -l' --------------------Output of 'fdisk-l'-------------------------------- Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 34 273073+ 83 Linux /dev/sda2 35 296 2104515 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda3 297 5099 38580097+ 83 Linux /dev/sda4 5100 19440 115194082+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/sda5 5100 14023 71681998+ 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda6 14024 19440 43512021 7 HPFS/NTFS Disk /dev/sdb: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x2dfb2dfa Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 * 1 3300 26507218+ 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sdb2 3301 19457 129781102+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/sdb5 3301 8771 43945776 83 Linux /dev/sdb6 8772 19457 85833728 7 HPFS/NTFS -------------------End of output of 'fdisk -l'-------------------- OpenSUSE was installed on sda, but the data directory was in sdb. Windows was installed on sdb, data directory in sda. I'm not an expert of grub, but I know how it works. I tried every option and command I know in the grub commandline, no success. Another problem, it should be one. If I select sda(let's call it this) the boot deviece, root(hd1,0), chainloader +1, boot will not boot the windows installation. And grub4dos installed on sdb will not boot OpenSUSE. I used my press a key and select the boot device method, it's a bit annoying but worked. Any suggestions how to solve this?
