Passcheck segfaults on ntop setup

      I installed ntop on SuSE 9.2 but can not get the system to start the 
daemon.  I have run 'ntop -A -u wwwrun' and set the admin password but 
running the rcntop script causes this error:

Starting service ntop /usr/sbin/rcntop: line 69:  6836 Segmentation 
fault      sudo -u $NTOP_USER /usr/sbin/passcheck

ntop admin password is not yet set. Run
        ntop -A -u wwwrun
manually                                                              unused

I can start and run ntop manually from the command line with no problems 
the error seems to be in the rcntop script and passcheck.  Any ideas? 

I've tried but can't find any man pages for passcheck to test options.
