-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Does the version info in your /usr/src/linux/Makefile define EXTRAVERSION to something ? If not, try setting it to SMP before recompiling your module. Also, you may try to load the module with "insmod -f NVdriver". It will complain, but it should load. - -tosi Þann sunnudagur 18 mars 2001 00:41 skrifaðir þú:
Hello, Tor.
Thanks for the suggestion, but this does not work. I have already followed through these instructions per the Nvidia documentation. The source RPM installs fine, then the module compiles just great. But when you try to load it, it complains that it was compiled for 2.2.16, when the running kernel is 2.2.16-SMP. It will not load. The Nvidia driver is very sensitive to the kernel version.
My question, again, is why the installation routine installs kernel sources that are not for the kernel it installs. These are SuSE's precompiled kernels. Why would the installation not know to install the correct kernel files ?
Bye for now, Stuart.

For starters, get the source rpm, and do "rpm --rebuild blahblah.src.rpm". This recompiles the NVdriver kernel module rpm. Now you have a rpm in /usr/src/packages/RPMS/i386 that you should install. THAT rpm will fit your installation just like a glove. The nvidia GLX is a binary, and needs no fiddling with.. just install with --force --nodeps and then run switch2nvidia_glx.
Have fun.

Hello, Filip.
You are the third person I know of to ask theis question in the last
couple
of weeks. Essentially, we need to know how to get the sourses and
includes
on our system for the SMP kernel that is installed, since we only seem to have the files for the default, non-SMP, SuSE kernel.
I think it's about time someone from SuSE stepped up to answer this, since no-one else on the list seems to know. There must be someone on the SuSE staff who can answer this.
Bye for now, Stuart.

Hi all,
Trying to install the new nvidia drivers. First I tried the tarballs, then the latest rpm's from nvidia. The error message I get is the following : /lib/modules/2.4.2-64GB-SMP/kernel/video/NVdriver : kernel-module version mismatch. /lib/modules/2.4.2-64GB-SMP/kernel/video/NVdriver was compiled for kernel version 2.4.0 while this is version 2.4.2.-64GB-SMP.
So can someone explain me how he managed to get those drivers working with 2.4.2
Any trick or something I can do to hide the kernel headers ?
TIA, Filip.
