As to your question, I don't know, but you should use Rock Ridge if you want full file system features (as opposed to the very limited ISO9660 capabilities) when the CD is accessed under Linux or a Unix (-like) system. You should use Joliet if you want full functionality when the CD is accessed under Windows. I don't believe these two options are mutually incompatible, but: a) I could be wrong; b) there could be some subtle issues I'm not aware of.
Joliet is totally compatible with Rock Ridge - it's just another set of directory records, using 64 char unicode (UTF-16) filenames. One can make a CD that has HFS, ISO9660, Joliet, and Rock Ridge entries, with no problems. In fact, I did just that last Thursday - and tested the CD on some old macs, some new macs, SuSE, Win2K, and Win 95. I like mkisofs (except for reading the docs - stupid complicated CDs). --Danny, surprised that he's still got hair after trying to get a web page to auto-load on insertion on OS9, OS X, and Win32. Argh. Type/Creator attributes suck!
