2. Automake 1.3 3. Libtool 1.2 You want those so you can build Gnome. :-)
:)
4. Xenon- an excellent and lightweight text editor for x...think notepad for linux. Very cool. Got a URL handy?

5. Poptart- a POP mail retrieval program that is infinitely easier for linux newbies to figure out compared to the included alternatives. Is it easier than fetchmail? I can't imagine it is unless it includes a GUI for setup or something. Care to give us a comparison?
Much like fetchmail. I like it better, just my preference. When I first got into linux I didn't know fetchmail was in my dist, sendmail made my head swim, and I downloaded poptart and I've just used it ever since. Poppy is a cool perl script for browsing mail on your pop server but it is no replacement for pine/elm/mutt and the pop retrieval tool of your choice.
13. Xmftp-1.0.4- The best ftp client for x.
That's motif based, though, right? Does it work with lesstif?
The author was working on a new version using QT. I sent him an email the last week of May. I recommended he look into using gtk. He sent me an email a few days later saying he looked into gtk and decided that was a better way to go and thanked me for the suggestion. I thought that was pretty cool. Here is the post he made on his website: --5-26-98 -- -- Some decisions I have made: -- -- I'm ditching Qt altogether and using GTK instead. I've also decided to use C instead C++, simply -- because I understand how to do things in C better (I'm not saying C++ is bad!!). -- -- kaosFTP, as it will be called, will be free, GPL'ed, etc. etc. -- -- Thanks for all of the suggestions. Here is the website, not much on it now. <A HREF="http://www.magg.net/~kaos/html/kaosFTP/news.html"><A HREF="http://www.magg.net/~kaos/html/kaosFTP/news.html</A">http://www.magg.net/~kaos/html/kaosFTP/news.html</A</A>> new gtk version <A HREF="http://www.magg.net/~kaos/html/xmftp.html"><A HREF="http://www.magg.net/~kaos/html/xmftp.html</A">http://www.magg.net/~kaos/html/xmftp.html</A</A>> the current motif based version Anyway, this ftp client rocks, and it will be that much cooler in gtk! (now give us gtk-netscape!)
15. neXtaw- because NeXT is the most elegant gui devised by man and SuSE already includes tkstep so why not?
Again, got a URL? I'd do a net.search, but I'm sure others are interested... :-)
<A HREF="ftp://ftp.windowmaker.org/pub/libs/neXtaw-0.5.1.tar.gz"><A HREF="ftp://ftp.windowmaker.org/pub/libs/neXtaw-0.5.1.tar.gz</A">ftp://ftp.windowmaker.org/pub/libs/neXtaw-0.5.1.tar.gz</A</A>> On a similar note, I am a huge advocate for WindowMaker, but I didn't include it because it is a little more hands-on than most win mgrs, there are compile time options to think about, etc.. Probably not the best win mgr to include in a dist as a precompiled bin.

ps. I am reading the glibc2 howto. Hmm, well, I can always reinstall if I bugger things up too bad ;) -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
