hi all i am planning to build a home network, and run a suse box as a nat/name server/mail server/etc. and i am wondering what, hopefully cheap, network cards would you all recommend? my budget at this point is tiny - about $150 for a hub and two 100baseT cards.. so i need recommendations/suggestions... what can i get that is cheap and works well with suse, and isnt a pain to install and configure?
Hi, I'm not sure where you are located but here Dlink Canada had a deal on 8port switches. Including taxes and shipping the switch ended up costing around $100 cdn. Add a couple of Dlink 530 [the older model is very cheap at local dealers right now] and you might get under $150 CDN or not much more then $100 US. It looks like the deal isn't on the Dlink website anymore but if your budget is $150 US then you might be able to make it. The Dlink 530 are I think running $25 CDN locally. They use the Via-rhine II driver. Just plug them in and select the right module.
