I ran it and didn't find anything from 15.5, but there were some from 15.2!
Forgot to ask what which packages were those.
Another reason I have a strict (1) new SSD, (2) fresh-install policy. Never does me wrong.... and:
$ grep '^/dev/sd[ab]' /proc/mounts /dev/sda3 / ext4 rw,relatime 0 0 /dev/sdb3 /mnt/wz ext4 rw,relatime 0 0 /dev/sdb4 /mnt/wz/home ext4 rw,relatime 0 0
sda - Tumbleweed sdb - Leap 15.4
spare box of drives back to 9.0 Pro... (8.x and 7.x no longer survive on disk)
There's a lot to be said for that method. I used to do full installs on pre-formatted "butterfly" partitions. Install on one partition, next version install on the second, next version install on the first. I could always boot the previous partition. I know, but I don't use btrfs. ext4 for root, and xfs everywhere else works for me.
But the in-place upgrades have been working very well, this sound problem is the first I've noticed. In-place upgrades save a LOT of time when you've got multiple dozens of machines to upgrade.
Chances are the problem would also appear in a new install on the same hardware. See Gustav Degreef's post. Another possibility is to install fresh on another partition a small system; if sound works there, then compare both systems to see what is different, then try to repair the big system. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E.
