Check what's in your /etc/securetty file. This controls basically the root login from console tty etc... Peter Cleary_Mike@emc.com wrote:
I'm using KDE 3.1.1 which I installed via YOU. And no, I cannot Ctl+Alt+F1 and login as root.
Also, when I open YAST2, it asks me for the root password, and this works just fine. This is really weird.
Mike ----------------------------------------------------- Cleary_Mike@emc.com ----------------------------------------------------- Yesterday it worked. Today it is not working. Windows is like that.

Yesterday I discovered a strange problem with my SuSE 8.1 box at work. I logged out of KDE, and then tried to log in as root. It tells me that the login is incorrect. However, as a user, I can su to root using the same password. I can even change
the
password, but I still can't log in as root.
BTW, I am not trying to login through a telnet session. I am trying to
log
in at the machine.
TIA,
Mike
What KDE are you using? Did you build from konstruct? That happened to me when I used the construct KDM. I just scratched my head and decided it wasn't worth trying to figure out. Can you Ctl+Alt+F1 and login as root?
