What period of time have you set Thunderbird to for it to save any mail being typed? I set mine to every 20 seconds. Any saved mail goes into the Drafts folder; once you send that message it is deleted from Drafts.

Just a follow-up to the above: I told a big 'porky' when I said I had the period set to 20 seconds in Thunderbird. The save time I have set is 1 minute (Edit>Preferences>Composition>Auto Save Every......). Sorry for the "porky" :-( .
