With ext4 supporting per directory encryption, it's possible to have better granularity along with convenience. Hopefully this work is adaptable for other file systems. In the meantime, particularly sensitive material needs to go in a separately encrypted image file, and maybe somehow put it on a timer for umount, then cryptsetup close.
