Hello
Some time in the last three days my PC has stopped detecting audio CDs in my CD/DVD ROM drive (I haven't tried a DVD yet). After spending a bit of time reading up on this on the web, I have tried adding myself to the audio and cdrom groups, although I've never needed to be in them before. Nothing has worked yet. K3B says that no optical device is detected, and nothing appears in Dolphin and there's no device notifier popup when I insert a CD.
I don't really have the knowledge to troubleshoot this so I would appreciate any assistance. I'm on Leap 42.1. Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards, Huw
Hi Huw,
As Patrick suggests, the drive may have simply failed.
Boot a live CD / DVD for a quick test.
If that fails, power down, open the system and carefully inspect, unplug and remake the CD / DVD drive's cables / connectors.
Boot to BIOS / system setup to see if the drive is still visible and enabled there.
It's pointless to chase software / configuration issues if the hardware is marginal or failing / has failed.
hth & regards,
Carl
Thank you Carl. I haven't tried a liveCD yet but there doesn't seem to be a boot option for optical drives in my BIOS any more, suggesting that not even the BIOS can see it. :( Kind regards, Huw
