When optimizing for a CPU is there any difference between the AMD K6III and the Pentium? I have a K6III 450 and I was going to optimize my kernel and I was just wondering? I.E. is there an AMD option? Is there an
option
to take advantage of 3D Now instruction set?
I believe full kernel support for the AMD K6-2/3 CPUs and 3DNow instruction set won't be available until 2.4.x is released. In the meantime, applications that have been specifically written to take advantage of the 3DNow instruction set will work normally. Linux Journal had written an article a few months back on how to set up the C compiler to use the 3DNow instruction set and to incorporate 3DNow into a program.
