Gerry, Don't give up! That's the beauty of Linux you just keep trying! ;-) I upgraded my Netscpae 4.72 to 4.75 and I started getting Bus error everytime I tried to launch version 4.75, except if I was logged as root in which case verything work beautifully. So I gave up and decided to switch desktops from KDE to GNOME and that is when I got into problems. In the end I couldn't even go back to KDE all I got was FWM2 window manager which is the deafault WM when all else fails. I have now decided to install the whole lot. Now that I re-install everything from scratch my video card works much much better, I can now get all the resolution and colour depth under the sun! I can run Netscape 4.72 without problem, I can switch to GNOME without any problem. Great! ...I think I'll give it until next week for this false sense of security to wear out and I'll have another go at upgrading GNOME and Netscape! Wish me good luck! :-) ciao Carlos ------Original Message------ From: Gerry Doris <gdoris@home.com> To: Michael Galloway <mgx@ornl.gov> Sent: September 14, 2000 11:15:35 PM GMT Subject: Re: [SLE] netscrap 4.75 bus errors - xshared? I gave up trying to get Netscape 4.75 to work. I just went back to 4.72 that does work on my system. I'm on a home network behind a firewall so I don't think there's too much of a security problem...afterall, if someone's messing with netscape on this box then that's the least of my worries.
