The Splash screen problem wasn't there until the kde2.1 update for 7.1 came out. At least I never saw it untill then. Maybe you have another problem?
Probably several. The lockup has occurred at several points. Sometimes, just as X is coming up, when the screen has goon blank, but the cross-hatch pattern hasn't yet appeared. Other times, while the KDE splash screen was showing the 'reloading sessions' message, sometimes while the 'KDE running xx%' was displayed. When I had kdm enabled, it sometimes hung while drawing the login window. The last and final lockup, before I blew it away and loaded 6.4, happened while I was trying to figure out the sound configuration. I was running amixer in a Konsole window, and I found that most of the commands did nothing. The up-down arrows only worked on some of the channels. WHen I slid over to try another channel, it all locked up... -- Rick Green "I have the heart of a little child, and the brain of a genius. ... and I keep them in a jar under my bed"
