Well, normally it _doesn't_, but I saw a package some weeks ago (on www.linuxnow.com, I think - but you should be able to find it everywhere ;-), it's the bind daemon, version **8**, and it looks like it DOES... I'm sorry I can't provide you with more information, because it's a while ago and I can't remember, but I know I saw it !! Is there anything out there that correlates the info DNS has as DHCP is assigning IP addresses? Am I just dreaming too much? What I have in mind is, when DHCP assigns the IP address, it updates the DNS with the hostname info, or vice versa.
Is it not possible for:
1. DHCP to find out the hostname from the host it's assigning the IP address to, (because that can be configured at the host)
and then
2. Update the DNS's Zone file that it has been assigned to dynamically configure..
Or, on the other hand, when assigning the info to the newly assigned host:
1. Query the DNS for the hostname of the IP it wants to assign,
and then
2. Assign the correct hostname to the host...
I guess this is a stupid question... but I can't resist not to ask and there just seems to lack a little more communication between the two services.
