Oh, I see..... it's now done arse-around. You type in what you want to search and then select the engine. Makes sense I guess as I usually select the TV channel and then switch on the TV set. ... Some developers require psychological tests I am pretty sure before they are allowed to be let loose on applications. You think any responsible for this are subscribers to this mailing list? The change is from upstream, same as virtually all FF devolution.
I was using the Nightly version of FF (Aurora) until a couple of months or so ago at which point I think the version number was #38. The current FF to which oS 13.2 was upgraded yesterday is #36. There was no such nonsense re the search engine in the Aurora so it is difficult to say whether this arse-around way of doing a search was done 'locally' or 'upstream'.
The comment about developers, be they 'local' or 'upstream', sitting for a test where they are given ink blots to look at, and asked what they see, stands :-) .
This change came from upstream obviously. Why would we fiddle with that thing at openSUSE? I haven't tried if it works but you might be able to get back to old behaviour setting browser.search.showOneOffButtons to false (I didn't test and I don't know when that'll disappear.)
