I specifically don't want Xvid, because the codec packs are huge and stuff windows up. :( I specifically want divx 6 because I already have it installed and would simply like to know how to use it. :) Xvid files have a good quality but I suggest that in proportion to the big file size. Divx 3 / 4 / 5 are more than sufficient and I would like to see the encoding speed factor as well as the file size and quality for divx 6 . But I don't know how to use it with mplayers - mencoder.
So back to the original question. How do I use Divx 6 in mencoder....
Thanks :)

Looks like you are going to get better answers on some mplayer list (check www.mplayerhq.hu). Mencoder has support only for the codecs it was build to support. So far I could not find information that it can use divx6. I saw that there is divx 6.1.1. for linux on divx site, do try to install it. If it has an encoder build in, as they say that it contains all Pro stuff. After that, if you want to reencode from another format, maybe you can use mplayer to get the raw streams and feed them to divx encoder. I did not try it, so it's up to you.
