That looks strange.
Are you running the 2.6.22.12-0.1-default kernel (uname -r)? What happens if you run the same command as root?
Did you try Kevin's suggestion?
block.3: cdrom int.2: cdrom
block.3: cdrom ----- /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info ----- ----- /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info end ----- int.2: cdrom cdrom 48800 2 sr_mod,ide_cd, Live 0xf8fb3000
I have to jump in here: I have had the same issues as the OP, but with mutliple versions of suse. My first version was 9.3, installed on an ASUS based clone notebook. Then SLED on the same notebook, then SLED on an HP nw8440 notebook ("SLED supported"), then SLED sp1 on the nw8440 In my it seems to be every other boot ... or sometimes I will go several boots in a row being able to access a cd, and then not. I may have to reboot a time or two or three before the cd icon appears on the desktop and I can access ANYTHING in the cd drive. What could cause that? And, across distributions and installs. The 9.3 to 10.00 was a wipe and clean install. As was the 10.0 to SLED. Then a clean install of SLED on the HP and then a clean install of SLED 10 sp1 (but preserving the /home partition). Below is the output of hwinfo as root and not. Also, I did the rchal resart as root, to no effect.
