Does any one know if and otherwise when SuSE will make an Alpha distribution.
We should really put up a FAQ for these kind of questions :) I'd volunteer to do so, if you guys out there send me some contributions! I will put them together, maybe even write some answers. To answer your question, we will first move over to libc6 aka glibc. As soon as the i386 Distribution (6.0) will run stable, we will take the plunge an do the Alpha port. It is expected to be released _after_ S.u.S.E. Linux 6.0, so please be patient.
My colleque is running RedHat, but he has the same problems with RedHat that I had before I switched to SuSE.
But I really pull my hat for their effort. I once installed a RH (4.2 IIRC) on a sparc, it worked like a charm. It is no easy task to have a consistent distribution for so many platforms.
Glint that doesn't work, the user manager that isn't 1000ke etc... He wants SuSE also, but having an Alpha it is a whole lot of work to change all the make files and compile all tha packages.
Then you can imagine, what lies ahead for us :^)
But anyway it is really really fast!!!
Agreed. I'd love to have one, too... LenZ ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer S.u.S.E.
