I much prefer just sticking the hdparm commands in boot.local. This way you can fine tune it more. For example this is what I use on my old machine here: /sbin/hdparm -d1 -m16 -X udma2 -u1 -W1 -A1 -c3 -k1 /dev/hda /sbin/hdparm -d1 -m16 -X udma2 -u1 -W1 -A1 -c3 -k1 /dev/hdb /sbin/hdparm -d1 -c3 -W1 -X udma2 -u1 -k1 /dev/hdc Please refer to the hdparm manpage.
