Yes! Thanks so much! Here's what I got... # hwinfo --cdrom ...SNIP... Device: "DVD-ROM DVD-116" Revision: "1.21" Driver: "ide-scsi" Device File: /dev/sr1 ...SNIP... I relinked the /dev/dvd to /dev/sr1, and that did the trick. Thanks so much for taking the time out to help out a stranger here! That first link got me to check 'hwinfo --cdrom' I could have sworn I used scsi emulation on a ide cd-r drive in the past, and the kernel boot-up message told me the new scsi location. I'll have to grep my boot.msg to see if I just missed it w/the dvd-rom (I don't think I did though). Thanks again and good luck with whatever you're doing. Eric Pierce
Hi Eric, please note that the DVD is on this list
http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/wessels_pioneerdvd.html
meaning you cannot install from it. I think you installed from hdc anyway (being the master on secondary chanel), so no problems here. But in the future, if you change the order of the IDE devices...
Second, try to see if somehow the dvd is read through a scsi emulation layer. If this is the case, instead of /dev/hdd the /dev/dvd should link to /dev/sr0 or /dev/sr1, I don't know which. See this link for more info: http://seismo.ethz.ch/linux/xcdroast.html
