Does anyone know of a good Desktop Publishing program for SuSE 8.2? ================
William, Right now Scribus is available and quite good. It is also on your SuSE cds as version 0.9.7, but I would suggest you getting the latest from their site and compile your own as many new things are available. I think I might still have a rpm I compiled for 8.2, if you would like that one. It's only 1.5mb, so possible to send in an email. Contact me off list for that. Scribus has by far one of the best PDF outputs to go to printers that has ever been available! It is still a work in progress, but very stable and usable now. This is going to be one of the very best DTP programs you can use. http://web2.altmuehlnet.de/fschmid/ Also, PageStream is out, but not yet fully usable. I think some on this list are helping test that. Hopefully one of those guys can give you more info about it's usability. That will be one of the premier DTP programs once it is converted to Linux. It presently runs on Windows, Amiga and Mac OS 9 and Atari, really! I have used this one on the Amiga for a long time. I would say this one equals or exceeds PageMaker or Quark in features. http://www.grasshopperllc.com/ Scribus is much like Ventura Publisher was, in that you first need to create a box to insert text and graphics. In many ways I like this method as it tends to help you keep track of things better. PageStream allows you to start typing on the page like a word processor or like PageMaker and drop graphics anywhere as well. Different strokes for different folks, your choice.
