Hello everyone, I was looking at the web page suse provides for hardware compatibility and I noticed that many of the 3Com ethernet cards are considered problematic. The page does not explain it what respect they are problematic. I am considering installing suse 5.2 on a machine that has a 3Com 905-TX (labeled problematic). I would like to know what kind of problems people might be having with this card.
There have been lots of problems in the past with the 3c90x cards. Under certain circumstances the driver could just lock up which could be solved by putting the network down and up again. Things have improved a lot in the last months but I've read reports about a new version 3c905B ("cyclone") which seems to be problematic for some people. If you already have that card, just give it a try and watch out for newer driver versions on cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov:/pub/linux/drivers/2.0.34. If you do not yet have the card, buy a DEC chip based card ("tulip") instead.
