Hi,
Whenever I try to print, if I forget to check the selected printer tray in the print dialog (when present), it goes to the "manual" tray. I have to remember to check, and change it to "automatic". On manual I have to get up and push a button on the printer for it to continue.
On the cups web configuration page, Printers, "Set Default Options", it is correctly set to "automatic", but this is not taken by applications.
Clarification: "automatic" tray for the printer means use the first tray that has paper. If the "manual" or first try has a sheet, it uses it, otherwise it goes to the stack of paper in tray 2. If that one is empty, it errors waiting for loading. So this mode is useful even if I want to manually load a single sheet of thick paper for a single job, or a book. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
