Previous to the update, this happened 3 times per month. Today, the log has rotated because of that and contains more than 60000 entries.

What can I do to stop this? I know how to filter the syslog, but I would like to stop the problem.
umount the drive, and disconnect the hub, reconnect and remount. If that fails, umount and disconnect and reboot w/o the drive and hub, then reconnect.
