...what is the difference between 'zypper' and 'rpm'?
Rpm is rather like a GM drive train (engine, transmission, wheels, axles). Zypper is like a body (sheet metal, controls, seats, stereo, trunk) wrapped around the drive train (e.g. Chevrolet) that enables the drive train to be both friendly and useful. There are other bodies for Rpm, such as Yum (e.g. Buick) and Urpmi (e.g. Cadillac). -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
