I am wondering......have you checked your settings for Firefox (Edit>Preferences>) in particular the Content one for the Fonts (and whether a site is allowed to use own fonts or the ones you have assigned to FF), and for blocking material on sites?

BOOM! I had the fonts set for "allow websites to use their own fonts". When I unchecked it, forcing web sites to use the fonts I selected, all the text became suddenly visible. I didn't even have to reload the page.
Wow, thanks Basil! So glad to get that fixed!
WHEW! I hate mysteries so am glad this one is now solved :-) . BTW, what the above suggests to me is that you may not have the full range of available fonts installed which is why those on that site (and others) would not display. (And don't forget: there are fonts specially designed for printing and ones for display on monitors. My personal choice for printing is Bookman Old Style and both DejaVu and Droid for use on the monitor.)
