Have you checked your heatsink and fan ? Seti makes the CPU run at full pelt. It will be causing it to generate more heat. Normally when you run Linux, the CPU is sitting there doing nothing most of the time and so is quite cool. On my system, when Seti isn't running, the CPU runs between 19C and 25C. When Seti is running, it goes up to about 40C. If your fan and heatsink are gunked up with dust or the fan is not going fast enough this can cause a problem. An over heating CPU can cause bad stability problems. I give my system a good vacuum and de-gunk every couple of months as I lost a CPU to this last year. A good cleaning can lower the maximum temp the CPU reaches by anything up to 10C. AMD processors are quite prone to heat problems. Hope this helps. My AMD K6/2 system often freezes, and the HardDisk panel light glows steady Red, when Seti@Home is left running.
This happens running Suse 6.2 also SuSE vers 7.0
I have also tried running this on Linux Tom's Killer Boot Disk . . . Again, Seti@Home Client program produces Segmentation Faults, periodically.
My idea: either I have a cpu/motherboard problem, or, Seti@Home Client for AMD K6/2 has a bad Bug :(
