I tried getting rid of the file kcore at the bottom of this list with the command rm kcore It wouldn't let me delete it????
<snip>
65540 /proc/kcore
This is actually not a file on your harddisk. Just like everything else in /proc it is a pseudo-filesystem used to communicate with the kernel. If you had been able to delete it, the comp would have crashed, as /proc/kcore is the running kernel itself :-) (If I remember correctly). However, most files under /proc are read-only for everyone, so even if you wanted to, you couldn't delete them. And since they are not really files, it wouldn't have helped you anyway. A little hint: If you have no idea what a file is for, you probably don't want to delete it.
